In the wake of the pandemic, the federal government provided aid to state and local governments. Most recently, the American Rescue Plan allocated $350 billion in fiscal recovery funds, with $190 billion going to states and $160 to local and some tribal governments. About $250 billion was sent in May 2021, with the final $100 billion sent last month.
