The Dutch and French market regulators have told EU governments to move beyond debating whether ESMA should become a stronger European supervisor and focus instead on how centralized supervision should work. The position puts the AFM and AMF in direct conflict with Luxembourg and Ireland, Europe’s main fund hubs, which fear that a stronger Paris-based ESMA could weaken national control over their fund industries.
