The green bond market passed a major milestone last month, topping EUR 1 trillion of outstanding green bonds. And strong growth is expected going forward, propelled by increasing concerns among investors on sustainability issues. Providing additional momentum is the EU’s entrance into the market with issuance to support the bloc’s pandemic recovery fund. Green bond issuance is expected to jump 25% in 2022 to around EUR 500 billion, and the total could be even higher depending on how fast the EU looks to issue more green bonds.
