The Fed sounds more hawkish, but rate cuts remain in play

The U.S. Federal Reserve kept interest rates at 5.25% - 5.50%, remaining at their 23-year high. The policy statement included a new sentence, saying “in recent months, there has been a lack of further progress toward the Committee’s 2 percent inflation objective.” This hawkish addition acknowledged the recent uptick in inflation.
